Welcome to Year 4!
Class Teacher - Miss Gray
Supported by - Mrs Williamson and Mrs Eldon
Our first topic this school year is 'The Romans'. We will learn about the growth of the Roman Empire, the Romans in Britain, Boudicca and the Celts, Roman entertainment, Roman gods and goddesses, Roman inventions and much more! Our visit to Colchester Castle will help to enhance our understanding of the how the Romans settled in our local area.
This term we will learn about the myth of the founding of Rome and will study various narrative texts including 'The Thieves of Ostia' by Caroline Lawrence. We will also develop our skills in non fiction writing, by studying and producing non-chronological reports and news reports.
We will be building on the writing skills we have developed in previous years by deepening our understanding of sentence structure. We will focus on grammar, punctuation and spelling skills and how to implement them in our writing across the curriculum.
In reading, we will continue to develop our comprehension skills by studying a variety of different text types. Our sessions will focus on developing a love of reading, as well as strengthening our retrieval, prediction and inference skills, alongside our understanding of featured vocabulary.
