Miss Smith – Teaching Assistant

Mrs. Newman - in class on a Monday afternoon

General Class Reminders

P.E

Our P.E sessions will now be on a Tuesday and Wednesday morning.  We are very fortunate to have an extra slot on Wednesday which we be run by Colchester United!  Can we remind all parents that earrings must be removed on these days otherwise children will not be able to take part in lessons, which is a statutory requirement.

Tapestry

As the children are now in Year 1, we will no longer be using Tapestry as a means to record observations.  Dojo will still be in place and photographs of the children will continue to be uploaded onto this and through the child’s personal page.  Please note that the Tapestry log-ins should now have become inactive.  Should you want a copy of your child’s learning journey, I have them on my computer ready to download and am quite happy to transfer if provided with a memory stick in a named envelope.

Show and Tell

A Show and Tell timetable has been uploaded to Dojo (I will remind the children on the weekly learning sheet) and will remain on a Friday afternoon but with a small difference.  Wherever possible we will try to link it to our topic ‘The Enchanted Woodland’ (before half-term) and ‘Traditional Tales’ after half-term.  Children can bring in objects, pictures or books for example.  If they are stuck for ideas please ask!

Homework and Spellings

There will be a half-termly homework grid as before, detailing activities you can choose from. These are not compulsory but there in case the children want to do something extra! The most important part of this year will focus upon reading and phonics, leading up to the Year 1 Phonics Screening which we will meet about in the new year.  The children will be given spellings on a Friday which will include some tricky words and some topic words.  We will use the ‘look, cover, write, check’ method at school and will also incorporate these into handwriting.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to ask at the end of the school day. Or alternatively, you are welcome to make an appointment to come in and talk to us via the school office.

We look forward to working with you again!

Mrs Scott and Miss Smith
