Summer Term 2019

A warm welcome back to you all!  We hope you had a lovely Easter break and are ready for the last term in Reception! We have lots of exciting things planned for this term, including a trip to Hasty’s Farm and the seaside!

Our topics will be ‘Our Living World’ for the first half term and a bit and then ‘Land Ahoy’ before the Summer break.  Please note that there will continue to be gardening club on a Tuesday afternoon this term.

General Class Reminders

Homework – Please see below for the current half-term homework sheet.  We are aware that there are more activities than weeks for this half-term so please do not worry if your children cannot complete them all!

Show and Tell – Please see below for our Show and Tell Timetable.  This will continue to be on a Friday and a reminder will appear on the classroom window.

P.E – Our new P.E time will now be on a Monday afternoon.  Please can we ask all P.E kit to be named, even socks, tights and shoes! Earrings must also be removed for P.E sessions, as in line with school policies, adults will not be able to remove earrings for the children.

Toys – Please can these only be brought in if it is your turn for Show and Tell as we do not want toys to get lost or broken.

Water Bottles – These should only contain water and be clearly labelled.

Sally Story Bunny/Maths Monkey – Sally will come home with a child per week (chosen fairly by lollipop stick!) with a book to share and record in.  It would be great if the children are encouraged to try writing and drawing in the book themselves about her time with you.

Reading Books/Word Cards – We will endeavour to change books and tick word cards on a Tuesday and Friday each week.  The children have various reading activities during the week that may not always be evident in their record.  This can range from ‘buddy reading’ with Year 4, Whole Class Guided Reading, Individual Reading and Phonics Time. As always though if the children are having a problem with a particular book, please come and see us.

Transition to Year 1 – After half-termthe children will start to change their morning routine by entering the school via the big playground in the morning.  This is through the gate to the right hand side of the school.  Parent can then safely leave the children on the playground until it is time to go in.  This is so we can start practising our routines for Year 1 in September.  Please rest assured that there is always a member of staff on the gate and round on the playground in the morning.  Members of staff from Reception will also be present to greet the children until their routines have been established.  Please note that at the end of the day the children will still leave from the classroom door.
